Our clients wanted a new kitchen with improved functionality, but they didn’t want to add square footage or change the existing window or door openings. Challenge accepted!
We began by rotating the island 90 degrees from the original placement and adding a microwave, ample storage, and an inviting seating area with a custom, wrap-around wood counter. Next we transformed the walkway between the formal dining room and breakfast room into an exquisite entertaining center with a built-in coffee system, refrigerator drawers, wine refrigerator and lighted cabinets to display the client’s large collection of glass and barware. Grabbing a morning coffee or evening cocktail is a breeze and keeps guests out of the kitchen’s work zones.
New appliances and cabinetry in two different finishes help to delineate the different areas dedicated to food preparation, cooking and cleaning. For daytime use, the major operations in the kitchen take place at each window, capitalizing on the abundant natural light and stunning views of the backyard and patio. To create atmosphere throughout the day, layers of lighting are controlled through a programmable lighting system.
While the stained and painted cabinetry has a traditional aesthetic, this kitchen is full of modern amenities including a powered trash drawer, a waterproof finish on the wood countertop and chef’s level appliances. Meticulous attention to detail enabled us to deliver on all of our client’s functional requests while creating an elegant space that can be enjoyed by the entire family every day!
