SOPHISTICATED SCULLERY
How do you make an already spacious kitchen and family room even better without changing the footprint? You increase the functionality by creating zones. You employ luxury appliances and locate them in optimal locations. And you completely change the aesthetics by replacing ordinary cabinets with custom cabinetry in premium finishes, with thoughtful details and accessories.
When our clients’ kitchen was designed twenty years ago as part of a major home addition and renovation, the resulting space was grand but the design was not. The original layout forced the cook to work in one corner of the kitchen and cross a busy traffic pattern to access the refrigerator. The storage pantry, originally located on the opposite side of the island, wrapped around a corner, which reduced functional space in the adjoining family room.
By relocating the essential appliances and creating a galley for the cook, we drastically improved the work zones and flow of the kitchen. In the new design, the storage pantry was no longer needed and the clients’ dream of having a bar was realized in its place. Freeing up additional space in the family room also allowed us to place a large custom sectional, designed to maximize space for lounging, reading, or watching TV.
The design details did not stop at the borders of the kitchen and family room. Newly upholstered antique dining chairs completely changed the tenor of the Dining Room, making it more useable and comfortable. And the adjacent living room was revived with vibrant color and warmth. As a final touch, we gave the family’s original mid-century modern kitchen chairs a new life by changing the blonde maple finish to onyx black and reupholstering the original Naugahyde seats with a modern print.
With functionality and storage paramount, beauty and warmth abound in this family-focused space.
It is amazing what is possible. Let’s have a conversation about your home and the space you’d like to transform. We look forward to speaking with you.
