Simply Black and White

When your clients have a center-entrance Colonial in the perfect location but it doesn’t meet their family’s needs, what do you do? You undertake a major renovation to fully optimize the existing footprint.

Starting with a small kitchen that felt more like a hallway between the family room and the rest of the home, and an ill-designed previous addition, our clients were ready for an out-of-the box change. We created a wall of patio doors at the back of the family room and dedicated this area to dining space. This allowed us to remove the formal dining room from the front of the home and envelop this space into the new, larger kitchen that now runs the full width of the home. With this change, we had ample space to create different functional zones, and our clients now enjoy an expansive island, a dedicated cooking area with prep sink, a beverage center, a message center with window seat, and a storage pantry.

The kitchen’s simply black and white theme shines in the high gloss warm white lacquered cabinetry accentuated by black metals and a special black pewter finish on the island. The room is completed with a touch of champagne lacquer and robin’s egg blue upholstery. Other luxurious, custom details include a glass and metal display shelf, an inviting window seat and a dragged paint wallpaper from Farrow & Ball.

With two new expansive openings to both the family room and hallway, what was once a bottleneck space is now the perfect gathering spot for all to enjoy.
