When a biotech executive, an avid cook, and their two teenage daughters decided to redesign their first floor living space, the possibilities were endless. The design we came up with transformed the cramped builder-grade kitchen and multiple small rooms into one large space that expressed their style and gave them the functionality they needed.
A casual style, infused with both modern and traditional elements, was perfect for this busy family. The infrastructure, primarily built around soft white cabinetry, is tempered by vintage finishes on the island and bar. The kitchen was designed around separate work zones to allow for multiple cooks to work simultaneously. Both areas have complete access to the centrally located built-in refrigerator/freezer.
A walk-in pantry, originally located at the end of the mudroom, was moved to the coffee bar for better accessibility. Its original location, now transformed into a laundry space, features reclaimed counters and shelves made from the original kitchen table.
All of the spaces were designed to capitalize on the views of the gorgeous grounds. The induction cooktop is positioned in front of a window, ensuring the cook always has a beautiful view, and the family room glass doors provide easy access to the backyard. Custom furnishings in the family room make the perfect backdrop for entertaining, movie viewing, or intimate conversation.
The clients are thrilled to have an all new flow and function of their home, without having to expand its original footprint.
